Otu Inspects Obudu Cargo Airport, Impressed with Progress of Work
The governor of Cross River State, Sen. Bassey Otu, Saturday, inspected the Obudu Cargo Airport under construction.
The governor who expressed satisfaction at the progress of work shared optimism at the timely completion of the airport.
"Yes, I have seen a step up from what I came to meet last time, and I have seen work in progress," he remarked.
"Like you know, and I stated the other time, all the equipment that are necessary to give this airport a go are on ground."
Gov. Otu noted that a team from the Ministry of Aviation recently visited the site to inspect the project and were satisfied with the quality of work.
"We had a Federal Ministry of Aviation, NCAA here last week and were amazed with the quality of the job here, with the standard of the airport being a dual passenger and cargo airport,"
The governor highlighted the challenges posed by the hilly terrain but assured that these would be addressed in the coming days.
"What we still have as a challenge is the physical structure, which we are doing our best to improve. That would just involve cutting out some of the mountains that you are seeing here. I think with that, we are ready. Yes, I am very impressed. I needed to come for this assessment myself because we are looking at some timelines."
Earlier, the executive director of CIBA Construction Company, the contractors handling the project, stated that all equipment required for the full functionality of the airport was in place.
"I want to tell you authoritatively that we are well over 85% complete on the job, with just some pending works on the air view and other minor areas. Let me also say that all the navigational equipment, navigational communication systems, ALS, ILS, and the full complement of equipment that will make the airport function as an international airport are already on ground, including the fire trucks, which are right here at the airport.
At the moment, we have three of the fire trucks ready for rescue operations at any time." The governor was accompanied by top government officials and members of the State House of Assembly.
