Id-el Kabir: Gov Otu Calls for Unity, Compassion
Governor Bassey Otu has enjoined Moslem faithful to imbibe the values of sacrifice, unity and compassion as ingredients necessary to build a greater and prosperous Cross River State and by extension, Nigeria.
In a goodwill message released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Linus Obogo, to mark the Id-el Kabir celebration, Governor Otu stressed the significance of the occasion, noting that "it serves as a reminder of the diverse and resilient state that everyone of us is a part of."
The governor noted that "It is a time for reflection on shared traditions and aspirations that bind us together."
While emphasising the teaching of Id-el Kabir which he said included selflessness and empathy, Otu urged Cross Riverians to lend a helping hand to those less fortunate, in emulation of the ultimate sacrifice made by Prophet Ibrahim.
The governor who sued for togetherness, also offered words of encouragement: "As a community of people, we must come together by casting aside tendencies that seek to divide us, as that is the only way we can transmit values of generosity, kindness, and peace to future generations."
Expressing gratitude for being the servant-leader of such an exceptional state, Governor Otu thanked Cross Riverians for their unwavering support and belief in his administration.
"As Moslems, your support is as critical as any adherents of other faiths. It is against this background that I thank you and ask for your consistent prayers so that we can achieve as a collective."
Otu reminded the Id-el Kabir celebrants to remember those who are not as fortunate during the celebrations by extending love and care in order to make a positive difference in their lives.
