Yesterday, Calabar South and its environs came alive as the All Progressives Congress campaign team and Sen. Prince Bassey Otu took the "People's First" campaign message to the LGA.
In a rare display of affection for a worthy son and in a Carnival like atmosphere, admirers and supporters of the man many prefer to call 'Sweet Prince' took over the city including display of several masquerades and cultural dances.
The APC campaign team which was led by governor of Cross River State, Sen. Ben Ayade, State Chairman of the party, Barr Alphonsus Eba among other top party officials, including the Senatorial Candidate, House of Reps, House of Assembly, had earlier held a consultative meeting with the Council of Traditional Rulers who endorsed and gave their royal blessings to the team.
The campaign council also held a strategic Town Hall meeting with critical stakeholders in the LGA including the Youths, community leaders, women, religious leaders and non-indigenes etc.
Sen. Otu while speaking to the jubilant crowd pledged a people- centred leadership when elected.
Describing Calabar South as home, the governorship candidate said "I'm indeed overwhelmed by the rousing reception and show of love from Calabar South. I was born and raised in Calabar South, therefore I'm home with my people.
"In my years at the National Assembly, you can all attest to the impact of my representation, When I was in the Senate, I engaged the indigenes into cooperatives, we provided the mechanisms and infrastructures for small scale businesses, in two years, Calabar South became a beehive of successful small scale business owners.
"if I can achieve that level of quality representation at the National Assembly without a budget, imagine what I will accomplish as governor.
"In the incoming administration we will build our own Julius berger, local contractors will be empowered, we will create 18 millionaires every month.
You are going to have roads, you are going to have light. I want to assure you that, together, we will build the Cross River of our dreams.
"I will not be here if not for one man who ignored all pressure including financial inducement to stop the back to south agenda, Senator Ben Ayade fought for the south and wrote his name in gold. The people of the South will never forget and we are grateful"
Sen Bassey Otu used the occasion to call on the people to vote for all APC candidates from Presidency to State House of Assembly.
"It is APC all the way, Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu has promised to open our maritime corridor by constructing the deep sea port. We will vote for him and all other APC candidates."
